Case Study: GIFAS Units in Edinburgh Park

Edinburgh Park in-ground GIFAS units from Charles Endirect

Who’s involved?

Charles Endirect supplied Edinburgh Park’s urban quarter with GIFAS in-ground distribution units. Edinburgh Park is a new urban quarter that will not only become an exciting place to live and work, but also a cultural destination and creative campus for Edinburgh.

The parties involved were:

  • Client: Parabola
  • Contractor: Sir Robert McAlpine/ FES
  • Consultant: Hulley & Kirkwood Consultants, Edinburgh

What was needed?

The public area required a power supply for events such as food festivals and seasonal markets. When providing power, it was also crucial to allow vehicle access when the supply was not required, (between events, for example).

What happened?

Edinburgh Park in-ground GIFAS unit from Charles EndirectHaving understood the client requirements, GIFAS in-ground distribution units were suggested as the most ideal solution.

An in-ground  GIFAS unit is designed to blend in with its surrounding area when it is closed. This offered a huge benefit to Edinburgh Park project. The unit is literally “out of sight, out of mind” as it is housed underground and fits in with its surroundings. This offered our client an elegant solution which was also vandal proof.

Our knowledgeable, friendly customer service team discussed options with our client. As a result, Charles Endirect supplied three Campetto in-ground units for the area, each having:

  • 2 x 32 amp 3 pin sockets
  • 2 x 16 amp 3 pin sockets.
  • A water connection for market traders (vital for coffee stands, for example)

An additional challenge

The potential flooding of the area was a key challenge for our team to overcome. Our expert designers created a truly innovative solution by using the red bell housing around the distribution board. Why? It achieves the same principle as an upside-down glass immersed in water trapping air inside. This means that in the event of heavy rainfall, and possible flooding, the bell housing traps air inside, preventing the electrical items from being flood damaged.

The client’s perspective

Edinburgh Park in-ground GIFAS units from Charles EndirectThe three GIFAS in-ground distribution units provide the power supply required for Edinburgh Park’s urban quarter. The nature of the units enables the site to be used flexibly, facilitating vehicle access when closed. The innovative use of the units’ red bell housing gives peace of mind that they will not be prone to flooding caused by heavy rain.

This is a great example of how our team works with clients to ensure a solution meets their requirements, offering innovative thinking and flexibility alongside quality products.
